It seemed to him that Iruka, of all people, wouldn’t
say it if it wasn’t true.
He couldn’t remember a time in which Iruka wasn’t
someone he could trust.
But as his fingers dipped into the startlingly painless, gaping wound at
his chest, he felt something surprisingly doubting. He felt an absence
within him as when he tried to think of hope;

He didn’t; yet another lie he would tell Iruka. Another lie that he was certain
he couldn’t quite make up for.
— and this wasn’t the harmless kind; the kind he would tell
about Konohamaru. It was deeper than that.
He didn’t dare glance down at his hands which felt slimy as he rubbed
his fingers together, didn’t dare reach up to use them to pull away his
glasses like he so desperately wanted to; to not only gaze into someone
elses eyes, but to actually have them consciously gaze back.
It was an experience he deserpately needed in his life;
